August 2011 (a longer version was sent to Members in July)
FABC Church Family and Friends:
Greetings in our Wonderful Savior’s Name!
On May 22, 2011, the Forest Avenue Baptist Church membership voted to change the name of the church. The new name is Huron Valley Bible Fellowship.
Quite a few years ago, the church changed its name to Forest Avenue Baptist to minister better at the time, and now in 2011 we are seeking to do the same. After much prayer and discussion by the leaders and church family, we came up with “Huron Valley Bible Fellowship” and recommended it to the church membership for a vote. It was adopted.
We are trusting God to use the changes in the years ahead as He used FABC wonderfully for many years. FABC has been declining for 40 years, in spite of hopeful turnarounds in some years. With no major changes, the decline would likely continue and end in the dissolution of FABC. While we have the resources God has supplied the church, we seek to make changes as God leads us, so HE can minister better through our church. FABC has served God faithfully, and now it is the seed that is giving renewed life. The new name announces something new is happening as we move from the past to the future. Pray that Christ builds His Church!
“Huron Valley”represents our local ministry field where we live. “Bible” expresses our continuing commitment to the fundamental truths of God’s Word. And “Fellowship” expresses the warm relationship that we have with the Lord and that we cultivate with one another.
We will use the new name in renewed outreach efforts through mailings, ads, internet, and special events and new ministries. It is part of revitalizing the church ministry. Plans and efforts are underway: children’s outreach ministries, connections in homes and neighborhoods, and we are already doing some special classes and seminars. A renewed church is the Goal! The new name announces something new is happening and that we are moving from the past to the future.
Sober thinking? Yes. Discouraging? Can be, has been, but we don’t need to stay there!
Opportunity? Yes! Opportunities are often disguised as disasters! Especially when God is in it!
